I can't help feeling that my Iray render miss an extra "oomph". I'm looking at standalone renderers, do you have one to suggest, if you do 3D yourself?

Like MrPhoenyXXX, I've used Firefly and Superfly from Poser and LuxRender through the Reality plugin. I've also worked with Daz Studio's 3Delight and Iray.

Several months ago, I purchased Octane Render. It's expensive, but so far it has shown to be worth it. I've found it to be far more responsive and faster than Iray. Aside from Redspec's shaders, there is not a lot of shaders available to buy. Octane does come with a database with thousands of shaders to use. You can test Octane with the free demo plugin for DAZ Studio.

As for Iray, it looks like your scenes are evenly lit and kind of on the bright side at least on my monitors. The lack of contrast makes the picture look flat. And, that an issue in any rendering engine. I wish I more time to discuss the merits of 3 point lighting. You might want to try lowering the intensity of the overhead lights to not wash out the colors and flatten the shadows.
